Lara Keel Texas Lobbyist Update: SB 1
Senate Bill No. 1 is a redistricting plan that is aiming to redraft Texas’s current district map. There are some concerns that the most recent Legislative maps, drawn in 2011, are not entirely politically fair and/or unbiased. Although this is uncertain and widely debated, it is a problem that should be addressed to satisfy all parties involved. The maps were redrawn on February 28th of 2012, and the bill is proposing that the state officially adopt them. These court ordered maps are in accordance with the United States Constitution and the Voting Rights Act. It is hoped that this will settle all current and future disputes regarding state districts.
