Lara Keel Texas Legislative Update: HR 28
House Resolution No. 28 plans to heavily increase regulation on illegal recreational/commercial fishing in local waters. Worldwide, illegal fishing creates massive economic losses of up to 23 billion dollars every year. The majority of this problem comes from foreign fleets that detract profit from United States commercial fishing. There are also serious environmental, sustainability, and security implications from unregulated, illegal fishing. Texas loses too much economically from this. This bill is a motion to eliminate this type of fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. It will help to preserve the state’s resources, both natural and fiscal.
