Lara Keel Legislative Update: HB 7
House Bill No. 7 was first filed on June 27th of 2013. The bill was authored by Representative Moody. As the bill has just been introduced, it has yet to see any motion towards being passed. If H.B. 7 is passed with a majority in the House and Senate, it will amend the current state penal code regarding capital felony punishments for minors. If the state does not seek a death penalty sentence, then a minor committing a capital felony will receive life in prison. An adult found guilty of the same class of crime will receive life in prison without the possibility of parole.
