Lara Keel Texas Lobbyist Update: Rick Perry Visits Israel
In October, Governor Rick Perry paid a visit to Israel. He went on business to speak on the opening of a second Texas A&M campus in the middle east. On his trip, Governor Perry also met with Israeli Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Zeev Elkin; Minister of Finance Yair Lapid, Minister of Energy and Water Silvan Shalom; Minister of Economy and Trade Naftali Bennett; Minister of Defense Moshe Ya’alon; in addition to executives from various Israeli industries.
Governor Perry has cited Israel as an excellent example of how to make good use of limited water supplies. Israel has a water reuse rate of over 80 percent, with goals to hit 90 percent in the near future. With an increase in water funding following the November elections, it is expected that Texas will start to increase their water reuse rates. This is expected to push the water reuse rate to over 10 percent.
