House Bill No. 897 was passed on May 20th 2013. When enacted, the bill will require that all students in grades 7 through 12 be instructed in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This instruction may be implemented into any course. Schools are required to use evidence based, nationally recognized guidelines in all instruction. Many people, including police officers and paramedics, are permitted to teach students CPR. The bill was first filed on February 1st of 2013 and will be enacted on September 1st of 2013.
